When Jesus called two sets of brothers to come follow Him, they didn’t hesitate to follow Him immediately. Not only was their obedience immediate, but it came with a cost. They had to leave much behind in order to follow Him, and the verses below probably reveal just a tiny bit of what they had to leave behind in the way of the familiar, what was comfortable, their work, possessions, friends, family members, where they lived, etc. When faced with following Jesus or holding onto all they had and knew, they chose Jesus and were willing to pay the price of leaving it all behind.
I am compelled to ask you this. Are there any people, places, things, beliefs, habits, addictions, wishes, ways, wants, dreams, attitudes, ways of treating people, anything or anyone at all the Lord has made clear you need to leave behind and that you are refusing to let go in order to fully, freely, and faithfully follow Jesus?
I encourage you to pray, to seek the Lord, to read the Bible, to wait on the Lord, to hear Him, to trust Him, to obey Him, to live to love, serve, and glorify Him, to praise, honor, adore, and worship Him, and to humbly follow Him no matter the cost. No matter what or whom you must leave behind in order to do so. Oh, follow Jesus! Follow Him forth, Hallelujah, AMEN!
“And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” They immediately left their nets and followed Him. Going on from there, He saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. He called them, and immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed Him.” Matthew 4:18-22 NKJV
