LEAVE YOUR WOUND ALONE

I just finished telling a friend to leave her wound alone when I realized the Lord had given me the most wonderful analogy. I knew I had not spoken the words to my friend, but that He had spoken an important message to me – that perhaps might be for you also. Sometimes we go picking at our wounds, causing them more hurt and damage, while all along God is waiting for us to get out of the way so He can heal us with His mighty loving hands through Jesus.

I was reminded of the child (or adult) who keeps picking at a wound, playing around with it, scratching it, checking on it, pulling the bandages off too soon, not using bandages at all to protect it, not taking proper care of it, trying to fix it oneself, not following the doctor’s instructions, and sometimes even going so far as to re-injure it or worsen it by not waiting for it to heal before using that part of the body again. What starts off as a totally treatable wound can become a nightmare!

Jesus came to heal the brokenhearted, but how can He heal us when we stand in His way keeping Him from doing His healing work? As I told my friend, we need to follow the Lord’s instructions. Disobedience will cost us, as I know by experience. When I finally learned to get out of God’s way and let Him heal my heart His way and in His time, He finally had access to me without my interference. Though every once in a while I still get in there with fear and pride and my surgical gloves on with my old behavior of trying to play doctor, for the most part I have surrendered to the Lord and know that He is the Healer.

Is there an area of your life that needs healing? Your heart? Your life? Your family? Your marriage? Your dreams? Your desires? Your plans? Your focus? Your mind? Your health? Are you standing in God’s way? Does Jesus have total access to you, or are you trying to play doctor? Is disobedience costing you? Or, are you surrendered to the Lord, placing your trust in Him and trusting His way and His timing? Leave your wound alone, and give God total access. Then, remember to give God the glory for the true healing work only He can do!
