My special needs ministry dogs paralyzed Miss Mercy and Miss Grace, both hit by vehicles years ago before they came into my life, were so slow and sluggish on a walk one day it appeared something might be wrong with them. Then all of a sudden they saw something they wanted to chase whereby I had to hold them back from running at full speed after what they longed to rush after. Reminds me of something we humans do sometimes when it comes to the Lord – and when it comes to sin.
Sometimes we are enormously morose, sad, self-pitying, moaning, groaning, complaining, whining, unhappy, down, slow and sluggish in following after the Lord and His will for us when we’re perfectly willing to go joyfully, excitedly, and at high speed after the lusts of our flesh.
We have no trouble rushing after what satisfies self that goes against God’s will for us while we put up great resistance toward and even outright rebel against God and His plans and purpose for our lives. This should not be so!
This message isn’t about my special needs ministry dogs. It’s about you, me, and all of us when it comes to the right attitude we need to have and the right speed we need to go in loving and faithfully following the Lord.
God’s command to love Him with all our hearts, minds, souls, and strength means we should be living in obedience to Him – with love, honor, reverence, praise, worship, humility, joy, and thanksgiving. We should not be resisting or rebelling against God. We should be excitedly and blessedly following Him! Amen!
Oh, Lord, help us to be totally willing and totally obedient to totally lovingly and totally faithfully forever follow you! Of course we don’t do anything perfectly, oh Lord. So forgive us when we fall short, dear Father. Help us be eager and desirous to love and obey you! Help us not go running at full speed to fulfill our fleshly lusts and fall for temptation. But help us instead to run after you and your will for us. Correct us if any way we are resisting you or rebelling against you. Oh, God help us to submit to you now and always, AMEN! Hallelujah!
“Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.” 1 Peter 4:1-2 KJV
