Long, long ago, when I was a little girl, I was desperately delayed – in my opinion anyway – when it came to growing and developing. I was short. Very. My parents used to measure me and my brother against a wall panel kind of a thing in the wall. Not exactly sure how to describe it. Only to say the little marks they made with a pen or pencil were there literally decades later when they finally sold the house. Needless to say I finally did grow to an average height. With growing pains along the way mind you. Seriously. There were times I lay in bed at night with my legs aching as they grew. I believed they were growing pains anyway. And growing pains aren’t fun in the least. Not for those growing physically. And most assuredly not for those who are growing spiritually. Familiar with growing pains?
When we who are all sinners separated from God turn from a lifestyle of sin, place our faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and in His death and resurrection, and truly dedicate our lives to God and His ways and enter into a lifestyle of love for and obedience to Christ, we are forgiven, promised forever life with God instead of hell and the lake of fire in forever torment apart from God, are indwelt by God’s Holy Spirit, and begin the lifelong journey of growing in the image of God, being conformed to Christ, and learning to follow Jesus day by day and forevermore. God begins a work in us, continues this work in us, and will one day complete this work in us. And as we learn to live according to God’s ways instead of the world’s ways, as we learn to deny self and live for Jesus, it can be hard to change, to grow, to learn and be tested, to be refined and purified, and to become the men and women of God He created us to be.
Need encouragement? Here it is. Commit your life utterly to Jesus and surrender totally to God and the process of God growing and transforming you. Rest assured He will provide all we need as we grow – love, grace, mercy, peace, joy, fellowship, wisdom, strength, power, encouragement, and comfort included! Grow, grow, grow, friend. Grow in the Lord, grow by the Lord, grow for the Lord. AMEN!
“being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;”
“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” Romans 12:2
