Ever been totally convinced something you’re doing isn’t sin? Looked around you and seen lots of other people doing the same thing without an ounce of guilt or sense of wrongdoing in their own eyes or anyone else’s? The government has declared it legal? The media writes and talks about it like it’s the most normal, socially acceptable thing imaginable? Teachers in the classrooms refer to it as perfectly fine? Maybe even your beloved family and closest friends say it’s totally alright and absolutely isn’t sin against God? You just swear it isn’t sin so you simply continue doing it without feeling shame or remorse? Or maybe you have this little, tiny, won’t-go-away underlying feeling that something isn’t quite right? That maybe what you think is okay may not be quite as okay as you think? But you keep telling yourself over and again that of course it’s okay, it must be okay, of course you should keep doing it?
Friend, sin is NOT defined by the world. It’s defined BY GOD. And no matter what the world says and does, and no matter how you feel about it, no matter anyone’s opinion including your own, if God in the Bible says it IS sin against Him, it IS sin and you must repent from it and turn to the Lord for His forgiveness and strength to leave it behind you.
When your life on this earth is over, you will not stand before the world or the devil as your judge. You will stand before God almighty and have to give an account. He judges according to His truth which He reveals to us in the Bible.
Live for the Lord, friend. Live according to His ways. If it’s sin against God in His eyes, it’s got to go. Repent and turn to Jesus. He is the Son of God, He is Lord, He died on the cross to pay your sin penalty and was raised from the dead so all who turn from our sins, believing in Him as Lord and in His death and resurrection, truly surrendering our lives to God and His ways, receive His forgiveness and everlasting life with Him.
Oh Lord, help us to believe you, to believe the truth, to not be swayed by this world’s wickedness, but to live according to your ways! Lead us to repentance in all areas of our lives. Humble us as hard as that can be. Help us to live for you not ourselves and not this world and not the devil. Teach us to seek, hear, and obey you. Help us to turn our backs on sin and our hearts and eyes to you. Help us to walk down the pathway you set before us. The “path of righteousness”, oh Lord! AMEN!
