When Jesus called four men to follow Him in the Bible verses below, their responses to Jesus’s call show us four truths about the right way to respond to Jesus calling.
- When Jesus is calling, we are to hear the Lord.
- When Jesus is calling, we are to obey the Lord according to His will for us.
- When Jesus is calling, we are to obey the Lord according to His timing even when that means He is leading us to act immediately.
- When Jesus is calling, we are to humbly, submissively, joyfully follow the Lord wherever and however and to whatever and to whomever He leads us with total surrender no matter what or whom we need to forsake and leave behind in order to obey and follow Him.
When we stand before the Lord Jesus Christ and have to give an account of our lives as we all one day will do, let it be said of you and I that these four truths were evident in our hearts and lives in response to Jesus calling!
“And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” They immediately left their nets and followed Him. Going on from there, He saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. He called them, and immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed Him.” Matthew 4:18-22 NKJV
