When I stayed in the same hotel room at the same hotel several times while in the area for my ministry work, I never thought twice about the bathroom light. The then hotel manager had been in the room, housekeeping had been in the room, and maintenance had been in the room. Nobody said a thing about the light. Then management changed, and a corporate manager came into my room to help with something. He kindly asked if I minded if he would take care of my bathroom light. How so?
He wanted to clean out the bugs and change the bulbs. I told him it would be fine. I figured he was just one of those people who is very particular about things and likes everything clean, neat, and in order. Oh, how wrong I was!
When he was done, I was shocked at how bright the bathroom light was. In my multiple hotel stays in that room, I had just assumed the bathroom light was fine. Now that the bathroom was filled with bright light, I realized how very dim and dark it had been!
Friend, we are to walk, i.e. live, in the light of the Lord Jesus Christ. We are to follow the light of the world, Jesus. We are to have the light of Christ. We are to shine with and reflect the light of Christ.
Our hearts and lives are to be filled with Jesus’ light no matter how dark the world around us may be. When we repent, believe in Jesus as Lord and in His death and resurrection, turning to God and His ways, we are saved, born again spiritually, and promised a forever relationship with the Lord. We come out of darkness and into the light. But if we’re not careful, we may find ourselves at times holding onto the dim and dusky and even dark of what we have always known.
God doesn’t call us to a life of darkness. He calls us to a life of His magnificent love and breathtaking light.
The Bible is filled with verses on darkness and verses on light. I encourage you to keep your heart and eyes open to them as you read the Bible – and to go forth living blessedly in the wondrousness and splendor of the light of the Lord Jesus Christ!
