“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.” Romans 8:14
One of the most brilliant lessons I’ve learned about serving the Lord is that there is a vast and vital difference between being led by the flesh and being led by the Spirit of God.
Today, for the third time in just days, I ran into a homeless friend who had told me she knew I was coming back to New York City because God had given her a dream about my coming back. I hadn’t even known I was coming back! I was convinced when I left New York City about 8 or 9 months ago I would never return.
Today, for the third time running into my homeless friend, I had the opportunity to talk to her about an aspect of her life that she needs to surrender to Christ along with her whole life in general. We have spoken for no more than about 10 minutes each time we’ve met, but it’s been like a series of little chapters in which I’ve been able to share with her concerning Jesus and her struggle.
I didn’t plan any of this! I didn’t plan our meetings! I didn’t plan the timing! I didn’t plan the conversations! I didn’t plan what she would share nor how I would respond! I just did my best to follow the leading of the Lord. And that’s how I’ve learned to live – and to serve Jesus. To surrender myself to the Lord day by day, moment by moment, as best I can, and to repent when I fall short of this.
The Lord only knows what I would have done in the flesh concerning this homeless woman. But my meetings with her weren’t about the flesh. They were about Jesus. For the glory of God, yes!
