“But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.” 2 Tim. 2:20-21……….
“Do you want me to come back to ______ ?” I asked the Lord as I was taking one of my bright sunshine-y day walks with Him.
I wanted to know if I should return to doing something I had done in years past in my ministry work but had walked away from some time ago with the plan to never return. Now what?
“You already know the answer,” the Spirit of God spoke to my heart. “Yes.”
He had more to say. “You left with the wrong attitude. Come back with the right one.”
Honestly, for all the time I had left what it was behind, I had not seen the condition of my heart. I needed to do two things. Repent. And return. With the right heart. A humble heart desiring to love and serve Christ and others. All the other junk in my heart I hadn’t even seen there had to go. Immediately. So I repented before God.
Friend, sometimes the Lord leads us back somewhere or to someone He never wanted us to leave in the first place. Sometimes He leads us back somewhere or to someone He wanted us to leave for a period of time before returning. If it’s His will for us to return, we need to do so. But returning is not all we need to do.
We need to return with pure hearts to love and serve Christ and others. And, if the Spirit of God shows us our hearts are not pure, we need to purify them. So when we return, we are pure vessels for the glory of and service to Christ!
