You Can’t Do This!

“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” John 10:10

If you don’t think the devil has a voice, think again. Better yet, read the Bible. He has a voice! He spoke to Jesus! His foul cohorts – all his demon buddies – have a wonderful time trying to mess up people’s lives. The devil’s mission is to steal, kill, and destroy.

And though the devil absolutely cannot take away the forever relationship God gives those who turn from their sins and believe in Christ as Lord who died on the cross to pay our sin penalty and was raised from the dead, truly devoting our lives to God and His ways, the devil can try to wreak such havoc in our lives that we do not love and worship and serve the Lord to the degree to which the Lord has called us.

If there’s one thing I’ve experienced through the years following Jesus when it comes to the devil, especially in the two years I’ve been on the road for Jesus full-time in my ministry work, it’s that the devil LOVES to say this to me.

“You can’t do it!”

Countless times, the Lord has made known to me something He wants me to do in my ministry work. Like going to my next destination. Like staying at a hotel with lots of issues to do ministry there. Like starting a devotional magazine. Like having multiple websites. Like finding a place in New York City for me and the special needs ministry service dogs. Like continuing forward with my devotional writing. And on and on. And countless times, the devil has whispered his sickening lie to me:

“You can’t do it!” he has told me. Again and again – and again.

Only by God’s grace, only because I am diligent in spending time with the Lord in His Word daily, and in seeking the Lord constantly, in making my relationship with Him more important than anything and anyone, and in doing my best to love, worship, serve, and obey Him, only because of Jesus, all for His glory, countless times the devil has tried to convince me I can’t serve the Lord in the way the Lord is calling me, I have proved him wrong!

I take no credit for the victories in serving God I have had. All victories are because of and for Jesus.

If God has called you to serve Him in some way, whether in a seemingly small way or in a way seemingly so big you can’t even fathom doing it, please do not listen to the devil if he is telling you that you can’t do it.

We don’t live for the devil friend when we’re Christ’s followers. We don’t serve the devil friend, when we belong to Jesus. We are Christ’s servants when we have surrendered our lives to Him. And, as such, we need to be really careful not to listen to the devil’s lie when he tells us we can’t serve God the way God desires we serve Him.

May we serve the Lord exactly as He desires! For the glory of God almighty, AMEN!
