Self wants to be in control of our lives. Self wants to run the show. Self wants to decide what to do and what not to do, what to say and not say, what to think and not to think. Self wants to fulfill its desires. Self wants pleasure, comfort, ease, safety, security, fun, and happiness. Self wants to direct its own life. Self wants to guide itself. Self wants to be in charge. So imagine my surprise when after decades of living for self – even once I believed in the Lord Jesus Christ – I wrote this prayer to God.
Lord, please guide me!
Oh, how God has changed me! I no longer want to live for self. I want to live for Jesus. I want day by day to deny self, take up my cross, and follow Jesus. I want the Holy Spirit of God to lead and guide me. I want to humbly, lovingly, faithfully follow the Lord.
I did not change me into this woman of God who desires to be guided by God. God changed me into a totally devoted follower of the Lord Jesus Christ who ever years to seek, hear, and follow the voice of the Lord.
I would never ever want to go back to the days of trying to control and guide my own life. My life is God’s now. I want to be wholly and humbly His today and forever. Oh, what unfathomable joy there is in Jesus being my forever Lord – and my everlasting guide.
Please, friend, believe in and be totally devoted to the Lord Jesus Christ and cry out to God ongoingly to lead and guide you by the love and power of His Holy Spirit who lives in His followers, AMEN!
“For You are my rock and my fortress; Therefore, for Your name’s sake, Lead me and guide me.” Psalms 31:3 NKJV
“Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it.” Luke 9:23-24 NKJV
