Losing Our Thanksgiving

One day I realized I had been losing my thanksgiving. I wasn’t purposely doing it. I wasn’t even conscious of it. Until the Lord used one of His children who shared with me about her own thankfulness to the Lord to help me see I had been letting my thanksgiving slip away. For several days or so, I had been consumed with my struggles and was becoming less thankful to the Lord in my words and actions – and in my heart.

A few days of losing my thanksgiving may not seem like a lot to you, but it’s a lot to me. The Lord deserves glory, praise, worship, honor, and thanksgiving each and every day no matter if we feel life is going our way or not. There are endless reasons to be thankful to Him beginning with the fact He is Lord and sent His only Son Jesus to die on the cross to pay our sin penalty and was raised from the dead so all who turn from our sins to Him and His ways with faith in Him and in His death and resurrection are forgiven and promised forever with Him.

If He never blessed us with a single other thing, His death and resurrection and His salvation for those who genuinely turn from our sins and devote our lives to Him is enough to make Him worthy of our thanksgiving forever and ever. The Lord’s spiritual and physical blessings go on and on, however, and so should our thanksgiving. It should go on and on – and on. Every single day, our hearts, words, and actions should be filled with thanksgiving to the Lord!

“ Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:” Psalms 103:1-2

I needed the reminder not to lose my thanksgiving. Do you?
