Love Doesn’t Do This!

God makes so ultra clear in the Bible what the love to which He calls us should and shouldn’t think, say, and do. And to obey His greatest commands to love Him with all our hearts and to love others as ourselves, we need to know – and practice – what love is to do. And we should know – and NOT practice – what love is not to do. One thing God makes clear is that in loving Him and others, we are NOT to boast about ourselves and we are NOT to be prideful.

Showing off and thinking, speaking, and acting like we are better, wiser, etc. than others or worst of all that we are better, wiser, etc.  than God is SIN AGAINST GOD.

Some years ago, I begged God to show me by His Holy Spirit each and every time I fall into the sin of pride and to lead me swiftly to repentance. He has answered and continues to answer my prayer and mercifully helps me to continually purify myself and to purge boasting and pride from my thoughts, words, and actions.

God, I cry out to you for us all that you would teach us all your ways, that you would help us all to walk in them, that you would empower us by your Holy Spirit who lives in your followers to obey you, that you would help us all to love and glorify you, and that you would bring strong conviction when we are thinking, speaking, or acting in a boasting and prideful manner – and lead us to repentance, oh Lord, AMEN!

“Charity [“love” in some Bible translations] suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth [also “boasts” per Strong’s concordance] not itself, is not puffed up [also “haughty” per Strong’s concordance],” 1 Corinthians 13:4

What are we to do when we sin? Repent and turn to God! Do what is right! Pride is not right! Pride is wrong! What is right? Love! Humility! Loving God! Loving others! Humbly! Fervently! Passionately! With the love of Jesus!
