My Chocolate Chip Cookie Story

Like mother, like daughter. My Mom and I both LOVE chocolate chip cookies. The cookie part is fine, but the chocolate part for me is a piece of heaven on earth. If God will have chocolate in heaven anyway. Imagine my dismay when I got part of a chocolate chip cookie out of the freezer as I love to eat them frozen only to drop it immediately onto the not so clean floor. My confession. I dove down quickly to find the big chunk of chocolate, washed it off, and need I say more? Okay, YUM. Which leads me to this message.

I had no hesitation in going all out to seek that cookie. But tragic to say just like I once was before God changed me, so many people who call themselves Christians will go all out in seeking and chasing after just about anything and anyone they love on this earth and don’t seek and chase after the Lord and His Word and His ways and His will for their lives as their highest priority in life.

We as humans love to go all out in our longing, our passion, our hunger, our thirst, our devotion, our commitment, our dedication, our loyalty, our steadfastness, our pursuit, our praise of, etc. when it comes to people, places and things we love and desire. But there is NOBODY and NOTHING more important in the universe when it comes to love and seeking after than loving and passionately pursuing – and following after – the Lord Jesus Christ.

Nothing wrong with loving and enjoying chocolate chip cookies and the blessings the Lord bestows upon us, and well we should enjoy and be thankful for God’s goodness. But there is something most assuredly wrong when we have our priorities out of order. When it comes to LOVE and SEEKING and PASSIONATELY PURSUING and FOLLOWING, God almighty should ALWAYS be NUMBER ONE in our hearts, in our lives, and in our devotion. Amen!

Oh, God, thank you for all the blessings you bless us with from the greatest of blessings to the least and all those in between chocolate chip cookies included especially the chocolate chunks, oh Lord. But Father, I thank you most of all for YOU and YOUR SPIRIT and YOUR WORD and YOUR WAYS and YOUR WILL for our lives. Please, dear God, have mercy upon us for neglecting to always make you NUMBER ONE as you deserve to be now and forever. Oh, God, be patient with us, teach us your ways, conform us to yourself, correct us when we need correction, and please, dear Father, teach us to make you our HIGHEST PRIORITY every breath we take for the rest of our lives on this earth – and forever, and ever, hallelujah, AMEN!

“As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.” Psalms 42:1
