“Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? “So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’… For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things….” Mt. 6:25-34 NKJV
Are you seeking the Lord for His lordship in your life, for His rule and reign in your life, for His will and desire in your life, for His plan and purpose in your life, for His commandments and His specific directions for your individual life, and to love, serve, worship, and obey Him through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, willing to forsake your own ways, wishes, and wants, to live for Him instead as your highest priority in life? Or are you seeking the Lord for His provision because you want your needs and desires to be met as your greatest priority? Your answer to this question may well reveal just where you stand when it comes to the Lord.
We need to seek HIS KINGDOM and HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS first. The Lord Jesus Christ needs to be NUMBER ONE in our lives. God’s lordship, His rule and reign in our lives, and our trust in and total submission and surrender to Christ as LORD of our lives, our forsaking what we want and how we want to live and instead living by His Word, the Bible, and doing what He wants as we live for Him, is how He commands us and desires that we live. But some of us, if we are honest with ourselves, are seeking God for His provision instead of seeking the Lord for His reign in our lives. Are we seeking Him for His lordship, if we’re seeking Him at all, or are we seeking Him for His provision and rebelling against His lordship?
In the scriptures above, the Lord makes abundantly clear we need not worry about our provision when we seek as our highest priority His lordship in our lives. Are you seeking the Lord first – or what He can provide for you? Is it time to change your priorities?
