I pray all the time, yet I know it’s not enough to pray as in a healthy relationship listening not just talking is so vitally important. Most especially when it comes to the Lord. We can and should pray, pray, pray. But we must, absolutely must, listen to the Lord both in His Word which is the number one way He speaks to us as well as listen to His Holy Spirit as He speaks to the hearts of His children always and only in line with His Word. I have learned to keep my spiritual ears open which is why I didn’t miss the Lord speaking to me one day as I prayed. He gave me a word. One single word. One powerful word I now share with you.
Dictionary.com defines perseverance as: “to persist in anything undertaken; maintain a purpose in spite of difficulty, obstacles, or discouragement; continue steadfastly.”
Why would He give me this word, as He has done, too, in the past, and why do I now share it with you? Oh, my friend, we who have turned our hearts and lives over to the Lord Jesus Christ absolutely must PERSEVERE in humbly trusting Him, loving Him, seeking Him, hearing Him, obeying Him, serving Him, praising Him, worshiping Him, singing to Him, adoring Him, living for Him, and fulfilling His personal, individual will for each of us. And communing with and enjoying Him in the midst of it all!
Yet we can be mightily tempted when temptations, struggles, trials, challenges, hurdles, tribulations, stumbles, falls, hurts, disappointments, and battles come to turn away from Him, to go backwards, to get off the path He sets before us, to quit in one fashion or another, to settle for less than what He desires for us, to get stuck in place, to become paralyzed with fear, anger, sorrow, and/or other emotions, to procrastinate, to resist Him, to rebel, to get depressed and disheartened and discouraged so much so we don’t want to take another step forward, to disobey Him, to do anything but PERSEVERE.
But oh, friend, we must, we absolutely must PERSEVERE! And I am here writing this to encourage you to PERSEVERE! Even as I write this, I need the very same encouragement. I could quit in a heartbeat given a trial I face right now. But no, I refuse! I am resolved to PERSEVERE! And I implore you to do the very same!
I promise you given the decades of seemingly relentless struggles I have faced that many a time I wanted to do anything but PERSEVERE. But each and every time, as I have cried out to the Lord and yielded myself to Him and repented as needed and kept my commitment to spend time alone in His presence and in His Word daily, He has given me every ounce of love, hope, joy, mercy, grace, comfort, encouragement, forgiveness, wisdom, strength, and power necessary to PERSEVERE and to press on in following Him forward.
I cannot take credit for persevering, friend. It is only IN CHRIST, THROUGH CHRIST, and FOR CHRIST that I have persevered. I trust the Lord even as I write this to help me to obey Him in His call for me to PERSEVERE this very day – and going forward! And I trust Him if you are fully yielded to Him that He will enable you to do the very same! To PERSEVERE in believing in and following Him!
That day, I needed the reminder to PERSEVERE as it would have been so easy to wearily crumple up on the floor and curl up in a ball and cry my heart out and not take a single step forward. But the Lord reminded me not to give up but to continue to pour out my heart to Him, to pray to Him, to cry out to Him, to study His Word, to praise and worship Him, to love and serve Him, to love and serve others, to spend time in His presence above all else, to receive His amazing love and to love Him fervently in return and to share His love with others, and to carry on walking down the pathway He has set before me. Choosing to PERSEVERE. In His strength! For His glory!
The Lord gave me the word PERSEVERE that day to remind me to PERSEVERE in Him, through Him, and for Him. Now I share that word with you in case you need the encouragement to do the very same. PERSEVERE, my friend, please do! PERSEVERE! In His strength! For His glory! To the Lord be all the glory, AMEN!
I find such love, comfort, mercy, peace, encouragement, and hope in God’s Word. Here are a few verses for you to ponder, and I hope you open the Bible yourself daily and dive in.
“And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope: And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.” Romans 5:3-5
“My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.” James 1:2-4
“Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,” Hebrews 12:1
“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.” Galatians 6:9
