The Man Who Got Too Close to Me

“For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace,
Who bring glad tidings of good things!” Romans 10:13-15

Before the Lord Jesus Christ stepped into my life and saved me from my sins, from hell and the lake of fire in eternal torment forever apart from God, and lovingly, mercifully, miraculously, graciously, generously, and amazingly led me into His forever sheepfold, I was a man chaser. I believed with all my heart the right man in the right relationship with the right amount of love would be the greatest thing in life – and the answer to life itself.

So I chased men endlessly, wherever I was, whatever I was doing, with whomever I was always looking for just the right man to rescue me from my woes, loneliness, trials and troubles. I looked for a man in human skin.

Little did I know the man I needed to rescue me and deliver me and give me the greatest relationship in the universe, with Himself, is the Lord Jesus Christ. Today I am single on purpose to be available 24-7 to the Lord so I can love, honor, praise, adore, worship, serve, and glorify Him and be used by Him to draw people into His forever sheepfold and to help people faithfully devotedly forever follow Him.

One day I was walking through a hotel parking lot when I realized a man had been following me. A man who could not speak English, who was drinking alcohol, who had a bottle in a paper brown bag in his hand, and who blatantly emphatically was living the lifestyle I once lived.

So much so that he moved his body way too up close and personal for my comfort, safety, and peace of mind. So he could motion with his hand to his bottle and make it abundantly clear he wanted me to go drink with him and only the Lord knows what else.

Gone are the days I would gladly have run off with a man and a bottle. Suffice it to say I was uncomfortable, uneasy, and knew I had to act quickly. But instead of my needing to figure out what to do, the Spirit of God moved mightily in my heart and led me to do something with an incredibly beautiful and powerful message contained within it.

I pointed to the bag, confirmed by his countenance he wanted me to go off with him, and said the first two things that came to mind.

“No! No! No!” I exclaimed. And all of a sudden I reached my arm and hand way high up above and pointed my finger to the sky. To the heavens. To heaven.

And all I said was this. I said everything. Everything that mattered. Everything that matters. What matters most. One word that is more important than any word in the entire universe. Before the world existed, the most important word, and after the present world will be gone, the one word above any. The name. The name above any and all names throughout time. One of the very few words I know in the language of the man who was standing too close to me.

“Jesus!” I exclaimed. “Jesus!”

Suddenly it was as though an unseen power stepped directly in front of me, so mighty, so forceful, so strong, so awesome, that power was. For as soon as I said the name, “Jesus!” with my hand pointed high up to heaven where God almighty resides, the man turned and walked away. Knowing full well he couldn’t take one single further step further toward me. Knowing he could not say another word. Knowing he was done.

He knew he could not stand up against the Lord Jesus Christ. So off he went.

And I want back to my ministry work for the Lord. The Lord who saved me. And saves me. And will save. Who loves and protects me. Who answers the prayers of all the people all over the world who pray for me as I finish up my first two years of being on the road for Jesus. On the road full-time proclaiming Christ to a world in dire need of the only one who can deliver us from our sins and save us from hell and bring us into forever fellowship with Himself.

The name above all others. The power greater than any other. The love mightier than any human love. The rescuer of all rescuers. King of Kings. Lord of Lords. Father in heaven. Redeemer. Healer. Restorer. God almighty in Christ. Messiah. Savior.

Forever Lord.

Christ Jesus.

Jesus the Christ.

Jesus! Jesus! Who shed His blood on the cross to pay our sin penalty as He bore all God’s wrath at all of humanity for all our sins so all who turn from their sins and believe Jesus is Lord and died on the cross and was raised from the dead, truly committing our lives to God and His ways, are by God’s grace alone, by no merit of ours, given an everlasting relationship with Jesus who will reign and reign and reign for all of time, forevermore, oh glorious God, glorious Jesus!

Jesus! Jesus! Jesus!

Friend, my friend, call on the name of the Lord! Not saved? Call on Him and be saved! Saved already? Call on His name and make a deeper commitment to Him! Call on the name of the Lord! And give every breath and step you breathe and take for the rest of your life on this earth utterly, wholly, completely, entirely over to Jesus. Live for Him, live for the one whose name is forever!

Jesus! Jesus! AMEN!
