The Man Who Ran

Jonah the prophet ended up in the belly of a whale because he disobeyed God and in his rebellion ran away from God’s will for him to preach to a mass number of people. In running away from God’s will, Jonah ran away from the presence of God Himself!

“”Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry out against it; for their wickedness has come up before Me.” But Jonah arose to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the LORD. He went down to Joppa, and found a ship going to Tarshish; so he paid the fare, and went down into it, to go with them to Tarshish from the presence of the LORD (underlining added).” Jonah 1:2-3 NKJV

When the mariners on the ship Jonah ran away on addressed Jonah in trying to find out the cause of the life-threatening storm and discovered Jonah was the reason, the Bible says:

“Then the men were exceedingly afraid, and said to him, “Why have you done this?” For the men knew that he fled from the presence of the LORD, because he had told them.” Jonah 1:10 NKJV

Three times the Bible makes clear Jonah fled from God’s presence! And Jonah knew it!

When you and I rebel against God in refusing to do His will, are we not running away from the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ? How can we have intimate fellowship with the Lord when we are living in rebellion against Him? We cannot! How can we experience a beautifully close relationship with Jesus when we live in disobedience to Him? We cannot!

Jonah repented and chose to do the will of God.

Any area of your life in which you have been living in disobedience to God?

Repent! Turn to Jesus! Do the will of God! Live in obedience to the Lord! And experience and enjoy intimate fellowship with Him!

Don’t run from the presence of God! Humble yourself and obey the Lord now and forevermore, AMEN!

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9 NKJV
