The ultimate letting go, I believe, is when we let something or someone go in obedience to God EVEN WHEN WE DON’T HAVE A PLAN B. EVEN WHEN WE DON’T HAVE A BACKUP PLAN. EVEN WHEN WE DON’T KNOW HOW GOD WILL PROVIDE. EVEN WHEN WE CAN’T SEE WHAT’S DOWN THE ROAD AHEAD. Why is this the ultimate letting go? First, loving God as we are commanded to do always should go hand-in-hand with obeying God. Second, loving God and trusting God should always go hand-in-hand. And, when we trust God, we don’t need to figure out what will happen after we let go before we decide to let go. We simply need to LOVE THE LORD, TRUST THE LORD, and OBEY THE LORD.
I was reminded of this when I cancelled an appointment with someone in whom for many years I had placed my trust. Sadly, my trust was mostly in the person concerning that person’s profession not in God as it should have been. God helped me see I needed to put my trust in Him instead and let go. God didn’t want me to go see that person again at least at that time. God wanted me to come to Him, to pray and seek Him, and to follow Him however He would lead me. God wanted me to let go before I knew what He wanted me to do next. He wanted me to simply love, trust, and obey Him!
Got some letting go to do? Put your trust in God, pray to Him, seek Him, and follow Him forth! Love, trust, and obey the Lord! Whether or not you can see what lies ahead!
“It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.” Psalms 118:8 KJV
“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6 KJV
Father, I am shocked at how much growing I still need to do as far as trusting you is concerned. Please forgive me! Please forgive us all for how we fall short in trusting you, dear God. Please, oh Lord, teach us to trust you! Teach us to so trust you that we don’t need to know what will happen after we let go in order to let go. Give us the willingness, the desire, and the strength to put our trust in you and to let go. Give us wisdom, please, show us when you want us to let go of anything or anyone. God forgive us our pride and stubbornness and our FEAR in this. Teach us to humble ourselves before you and to submit to you. Help us not resist you but instead to yield ourselves utterly to you in all things. Oh Lord, we need you, oh how we need you, dear Father! Have mercy upon us and help us, dear Father! AMEN!
