Holding God at a Distance

“They looked to Him and were radiant,
And their faces were not ashamed.
This poor man cried out, and the Lord heard him,
And saved him out of all his troubles.
The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him,
And delivers them.” Psalm 34:5-7

One of the greatest tragedies of my life, and perhaps you can relate, is that for so very long I believed in the Lord but held Him away at a distance because I had been so badly hurt by someone in the past that I didn’t feel safe letting anyone really close – not even God. In trying to protect myself from getting hurt all over again especially considering how much my heart still hurt and given how much fear I still held because of what I had been through, I did my very best to keep God from getting too close to me.

But the Lord broke through the wall around my heart and showed me not only was He the very one I needed to heal my heart and past, but He was the one I needed to be in close intimate personal ever-growing relationship with me more than anyone else in the universe.

I needed Him, and His love, mercy, grace, forgiveness, peace, hope, friendship, direction, wisdom, comfort, favor, promises, blessings, healing, deliverance, salvation, freedom, provision, and, most of all, LORDSHIP, more than I needed anyone or anything in the world. That was true then, and it’s true every breath of my life and forever!

Jesus died on the cross to pay our sin penalty and was raised from the dead so all who turn from their sins and believe in Him as Lord and truly turn over their lives to God and His ways are forgiven and given an everlasting relationship with the Lord. Not so we can keep God at a distance, but so we can be in His phenomenal, glorious, awesome, fellowship forevermore!

Today, I want nothing more than Jesus Himself and to be as close to Him now and forever as I can possibly be. No more wall for me. He is the love of my life, and I live and breathe for Him and yearn to draw ever closer to Him and Him to me.

How about you? If you have a wall around your heart and you’re keeping God at a distance, it’s time to take the wall down. There is nothing more beautiful and precious in the universe than Jesus. Don’t let a wall stand between you. Turn from your sins, believe in Him as Lord, turn to Him and His ways, and let nothing stand between you. Be utterly His. Now. And forever. AMEN!
