The world teaches us to love people when we want to, when we feel like it, when they love us in return, when we get something in return, when it feels good to love them, when they treat us well, when we feel they deserve to be loved, when they are thankful for our love and/or for what we do for them, when loving them feels safe, secure, comfortable, familiar, and risk free, etc.
God’s greatest commands are to love Him with all our hearts and to love others as ourselves. Throughout the Bible, He teaches us what this love looks like, says, and does and even how it thinks. Not human fleshly self-centered, selfish, self-gratifying love, but the love to which He calls us. Godly love. Sacrificial love. Giving love. Kind love. Patient love. Listening love. Encouraging love. Generous love. And on and on. God’s way of love. Modeled after the Lord Himself. Study love in the Bible and you will see.
What does victory have to do with love?
It’s a challenge, a battle, so very hard, and seemingly impossible in this dark world to love the way the Lord commands us to love! It requires dying to self and living for Christ. It can hurt, hurt, hurt as we deny the flesh and choose to love even when the last thing in the world we want to do or feel like we should do or even feel like we can do in a certain situation is to love.
In fact, in our flesh of ourselves apart from the Lord and His Holy Spirit and His Word, it is impossible to love the way He calls us to love!
But we can have victory, my friend! Oh, yes, we can! We can have victory in love! We can be victorious in loving!
In Christ, through Christ, and for Christ, we can love others with the love He pours into our hearts such that we obey His commands and walk in HIS LOVE!
If you are struggling with loving someone or some people, turn to Jesus! He is the answer! He is love! And when you are a believer in and follower of His and submitted to Him, He will enable you to love just as He calls you to do. Hallelujah! The victory when it comes to love is IN THE LORD!
Father, thank you for teaching me this through the years by your Holy Spirit and through your Word and now for using me and this ministry and writing included to share with others this powerful and vitally important message. Teach us and empower us, oh Lord, to LOVE! Just as you command us, Amen!
“And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.” Ephesians 5:2
“Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” Romans 5:5
“”You have heard that it was said, ‘YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet your brethren only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the tax collectors do so? Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.” Matthew 5:43-48
“A friend loves at all times,…” Proverbs 17:17
“Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.” John 15:13
“Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away.” 1 Cor. 13:4-8
