When the Past Calls Your Name

Sometimes I feel a tremendous urge to go back – to something or someone or some place or some opportunity, etc. Here is some wisdom the Lord has given me and that I have learned along the way concerning when the past calls your name and the urge comes to go back.

  • Pray
  • Seek the Lord
  • Wait on the Lord
  • Hear from the Lord and check what you believe He speaks to your heart against the Bible because He will only and always speak in line with it
  • Obey the Lord
  • Give the glory to the Lord

Sometimes the Lord does in fact call and lead us to go back to something, someone, some place, or some opportunity, etc.

And sometimes it is absolutely NOT His will for us to go back.

If we are wise and truly love the Lord, we will look to the Lord for the answer and obey what He speaks by His Spirit to our hearts.

The Lord commands us to fear Him, to revere Him, to honor Him, and to love Him, and those who fear, revere, honor, and love Him choose to obey Him. He will give us wisdom when we seek Him and His will with the confidence He will answer.

Seek the Lord, friend, seek, seek, seek and follow the Lord!

Dear Father, help us to know when to go back and when not to go back. Father, help us by giving us the willingness to do whatever your will is. Father, I have spent decades living in the past and still have the desire sometimes to go backwards instead of forwards. I believe I am not alone in this. Help us all, dear Lord, to submit to you and to follow you as to whether we need to go back or keep moving ahead. Your will be done, precious Lord, AMEN!

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord;  he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.” James 1:5-8

““The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” Proverbs 9:10
