“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.” Romans 12:1
How comfortable was Jesus? And His disciples? The apostles? His followers in Bible times? His followers now? Does Jesus promise His followers we’ll always be comfortable? He promises His followers the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, but not that we’ll always be comfortable. In fact, we may be everything but. Does He not call us to leave our comfort behind? Isn’t denying ourselves and taking up our crosses (Mt. 16:24), as He calls His followers to do, synonymous with being willing to abandon our comfort? Does He want us to make our decisions and take our actions and live our lives based on what’s comfortable? Or on what’s right? On what’s God’s will? Are you willing to leave behind the comfortable if that’s what it will take to go where God is sending you, to do what He’s calling to you to do, to say what He wants you to say, to bring glory to His name? Even when it means leaving your comfort behind?
Is God calling you to do something that’s not comfortable? That involves risk? And change? And loss of what you want? And turning away from your wish list? And personal dreams? And the approval and praises of others? And what’s familiar? And what’s your routine? Your norm? What you’ve always known? Are you resisting Him? Are you debating? Are you putting Him off? Are you holding Him at arm’s length? Or running the other way? Or hiding under the covers of your bed? Or burying yourself in addictions to tune out His voice? Or putting your radio and television on LOUD to avoid Him? Do you know what it is He’s calling you to do? How much longer will you put off God? How much more will you grieve His Spirit by refusing to listen? To obey?
Jesus sacrificed His life to pay the penalty for the sins of all humanity so those who turn from their sins, believe in Him, and turn to God forever are forgiven and promised eternal life with God. Oh, how little the sacrifice He asks of us when compared with His unfathomable sacrifice!
Will you leave behind your comfort for Christ? Will you say yes to God? Will You? Is He waiting to hear your reply? If you know what He’s asking you, please respond. Yes! For Christ!
