“Your thoughts are unacceptable to me.” There was no doubt. No question. No debate. I knew the Holy Spirit had spoken to my heart. I knew what I needed to do. Purify my heart. Repent. Get rid of the wicked thoughts.
In case you think I had exceedingly sickeningly grossly unbelievably foul thoughts in my mind at the time, you are wrong. There were most assuredly ungodly, but they were simply unkind thoughts about someone.
Truth is unkind thoughts, mean thoughts, dirty thoughts, foul thoughts, critical thoughts, negative thoughts, complaining thoughts, self-pitying thoughts, immoral sexual thoughts, self-hatred thoughts, hatred of others thoughts, vengeful thoughts, bitter thoughts, judgmental thoughts, jealousy thoughts, condemning thoughts, etc. are ALL wrong thoughts. Sinful thoughts. Thoughts that need to go. Ungodliness needs to be gotten rid of. When the Holy Spirit of God points them out to us, we need to repent right away.
We can try to convince ourselves nobody sees our “secret” thoughts so we’re okay to have them. After all, we may believe, they are just thoughts. People can’t hear our ungodly thoughts, so we should be fine having them, right? Wrong! There are NO “secret thoughts” when it comes to the Lord. He knows every single one of them!
When our thoughts are unacceptable to the Lord, we need to take them “captive” and replace them with thoughts that are pleasing to Him.
Honestly, I struggle with wrong thoughts day in and day out. It’s a constant battle for me. And the only way to victory, friend, is in Christ. Turning to the Lord, turning to the Bible, and diligently, proactively, reverently, and as often as needed purifying our hearts and minds and choosing the way of the Lord. Pure thoughts are possible, friend, by the grace of Christ for the glory of Christ, AMEN! Let us be vigilant, diligent, and dedicate to continually purifying our thoughts, words, and actions so in all ways we are pleasing to the Lord to the maximum degree!
Father, help us to be diligent in purifying our hearts, minds, and lives for you! Show us when our minds are clogged with sinful thoughts. Help us to get rid of them. Help us to replace them with right thoughts. Help us to honor you in our thoughts, words, and actions. Oh, how we need your help in this. Thank you for helping us, Lord, oh thank you, AMEN!
